UNFPA's State of the World Population 2007

Every year, on behalf of UNFPA, WPF launches their report the State of the World Population (SWOP). This year's title is: Unleashing the Potential of Urban Growth.

In 2008, for the first time, more than half of the world’s population - 3.3 billion people - will be living in urban areas. By 2030, towns and cities will be home to 5 billion people. The urban population of Africa and Asia will double in a generation. This unprecedented shift could enhance development and promote sustainability – or it could deepen poverty and accelerate environmental degradation.

In the Special Youth Supplement: Growing Up Urban
This special report addresses the challenges and promises of urbanization as seen through the eyes of young people.

Minister Vogelaar, Minister for Housing, Communities and Integration,  received the first copy of this year's SWOP from Mrs. Mane, the new Deputy Executive Director (Programmes) of UNFPA.
